No non-profit can exist without having a board of directors, but even more-so at Schoolhouse we could not thrive without our dedicated board members who give tirelessly of their time, talent, and passion for kids.

Board Chairperson
Robin is the Chief of Staff for The Redwoods Group. She joined our board in 2021. As a parent, she most appreciates the incredible programming that Schoolhouse of Wonder provides. She calls it a “pretty magical combination of being completely unplugged but deeply connected - to other campers, to caring, creative and well-trained counselors, and to the natural world.” She has been glad for the opportunity for her family to be involved with the camp programs of Schoolhouse of Wonder and she wants every child and family who desires this kind of opportunity to have it - now and for many years to come.

Board Treasurer
Renee is an Environmental Educator for NCSU’s Extension Forestry, which includes her role as the state coordinator for Project Learning Tree—a program which provides activities and resources to engage children in learning about the environment through the lens of trees and forests. Renee joined our board in 2021, bringing her experience from two previous positions on non-profit boards and knowledge of environmental education across the region to Schoolhouse of Wonder. She is glad for the opportunity to work with staff and board members to lift up the mission and values of the organization.

Board Secretary
Jen is a Research Assistant Professor with NCSU’s Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources. She’s been a member of our board since 2018. She joined our board because she believes in Schoolhouse's mission, vision, and values and enjoys working with and learning from the other board members, who are creative, imaginative, and hard-working. She loves that at Schoolhouse, differences are celebrated, and everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Kids can be themselves, run wild, get dirty, while learning to appreciate one another.

Mickey is a Commercial Solar Specialist with Southern Energy Management. He joined our board in 2021 because he wanted to further expand and grow the mission of Schoolhouse of Wonder. He appreciates how accessible the Schoolhouse programs are, and since he has children in our programs, he can personally attest to how much his children appreciate nature and are willing to explore our world more and more.

John is a Senior Research Chemist with the US Environmental Protection Agency. He has been a part of our board since 2016. He joined our board because he enjoys helping build the organization and encouraging greater access to Schoolhouse across the Triangle. He sees how Schoolhouse has helped thousands of local children to grow by encouraging kind, creative minds through outdoor activity and he loves the confidence and freedom that are instilled in children through artful outdoor activities.

Emily Wallace is a Managing Principal with Thrivner, a woman-owned small business with extensive experience serving academia, industry, non-profits, and government. She has been a part of Schoolhouse’s board since 2021. Prior to joining the board, she has also been a part of Schoolhouse as a camp parent.

If you have a passion for Schoolhouse, find yourself telling anyone who will listen to you about how amazing Schoolhouse is, or have a skill set that you think can help in the many aspects of a non-profit organization, reach out to us! We'd love to have you consider joining our Board of Directors.
