Aye Mateys – we had arrrguably the best week of the summer this week! We learned tips and tricks to sail the seven seas in kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. When we weren’t perfecting our techniques we were playing games where we plundered treasure, used pool noodle pirate swords, and paddled away from angry sharks! We tried our hand at fishing with homemade poles and even learned the basics of using a rescue throw rope. You could say we are hooked on paddling!

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we had a full week to create structures and fortresses from the forest. A classic Schoolhouse pastime took center stage as we created constructions with branches, logs, rocks, and rope. Campers tapped into their creativity as they designed the dwellings of their dreams and the skills required to turn those dreams into reality. We also had an amazing raft race!

In this camp we learned some of the skills needed to survive and thrive in the wilderness. Campers got to try their hand at using guides to navigate the forest, and even find some native plants to eat along the way! We learned lashings and knots, tried to build a watertight shelter, and used different fire making methods like quartz and steel. This week provided campers with a great challenge, whether they were new to wilderness survival or a seasoned bushcrafter.

This week campers got to turn into a dragonfly by making their own wings and antennae, learned about the amazing dragonfly life cycle, and were constantly looking for these amazing flyers! Along with these themed activities, campers had a chance to build forts, splash in the creek, relax during storytelling, explore the forests and fields, try their hand at whittling, and of course, play some amazing Schoolhouse games.

This week was full of art made in nature and art made by nature! Campers got dirty, tired, and happy as they splashed in puddles on rainy days, sculpted with mud, created colorful crafts, played games, and discovered what magical things the deep woods have to teach us.

Growth Rings: Level Up! Photo Gallery
Highlights from our jam packed week were earning some difficult growth rings like fire 3 in 90% humidity, playing Bakweli and Defeat the Lich, and playing board games while it rained. In the soggy parts of this week we let our silly sides show while dancing and making up games in the rain! Most days this week we didn’t go to water time, it came to us! We made a new creek spot by splashin’ around in the mud on the trail down to the grove, what a fun week!

Into the Air! Photo Gallery
We had lots of rain this week, but we kept our spirits high with lots of games of Kneecoup and Werewolf in the rain showers. We heard many stories from our counselors, including almost all of Dan’s “cat series”, and many many more! It was truly a wet week to remember!

This rainy week was great with our little duckling mallards in tow, we absolutely loved to play around in the rain all day! Some of our week’s highlights were coloring, making rafts for, and racing our rubber ducks down the creek! We also loved our other themed activities like migration tag, duck duck goose, duck masks, and our handprint ducks. Our favorite game, the one that we also voted for on democratic Friday, was Kick the Can! We had a bunch of cool nature finds this week including immediately finding mallards on Monday, cool spider in the creek, crawdads, and a turtle!
