We spent this gorgeous week of camp together exploring the trails and creeks of Umstead State Park. This week was full of wildlife encounters. We made pine cone bird feeders so that we could observe birds in their natural habitat and we even saw a deer that let us get pretty close! A few Schoolhouse games rounded out our week. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun!
This week our campers focused on honing their skills in things like whittling and knot-tying. We put our new knot-tying skills to use by incorporating lashing into our fort-building with some excellent results. During water time, we splashed, looked for critters, and made sculptures out of clay. Of course, no week as Schoolhouse would be complete without some forest games and story-telling. Take a look at some of the photos below to catch a small glimpse of our big week!
This silly, giggly group of campers had a blast exploring Umstead State Park this week. We searched around for critters and were not disappointed, finding several crayfish, some frogs, turtles, and more! We did crafts, heard stories, and even dabbled in some face paint. Take a look at the photos below to catch a small glimpse of our big week!
This week of camp focused on tons of classic Schoolhouse of Wonder games. While we played them all, group favorites included epic games of Sock Wars and Six Feathers. When not playing games, our campers worked on some impressive whittling projects, hiked, splashed in the creek, and listened to stories. Take a look at the photos below to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy!
This week in camp we sharpened our skills at whittling (pun intended) and primitive fire-making. Some campers tried their hand at whittling a flat-sided object, a butter knife, and a spoon. Others may have attempted to light a small, one-match fire or tried lighting kindling with the quartz and steel striking technique. Along with these activities we listened to stories, some kind of spooky, and some pretty silly. We also played a few classic Schoolhouse games, like Windigo and Six Feathers. Here are just a few photos of our time together.
