If you’re wondering what your camper has been up to this week, here are some questions to get the conversation started…
- This week our group of Backcountry Adventurers have been learning amazing skills that will help them in the wilderness. On Monday, we learned about how to find the perfect walking stick as well as how to use new water filters. What characteristics make a great walking stick? How did the water filters work?
- On Tuesday, our group learned how to set up two different kinds of ultralight shelters. We first put up a one-man tent made from impregnated nylon. We also put up a lightweight tarp that didn’t have any closed walls. What made each setup so light? Which setup would you prefer to sleep in yourself?
- Another skill that we learned on Tuesday was how to tie different kinds of knots that you can use for a variety of situations. Do you remember the names of some of those knots? Could you teach your family or friends? (Hint: bowline knot and taut-line hitch knot)
