Trees are a key ingredient to forests like West Point on the Eno. In this tree-themed week, we climbed trees, hid behind trees, and did our best tree poses. We sampled sour leaf, made grass crowns, played plenty of games, and cooled off in the river. Check out our photo gallery to see what we were up to this week!
At Schoolhouse, we strive to teach our campers about the importance of understanding and protecting our natural world. Throughout the week, campers got to learn about local tree species like the Sycamore and Sourwood. Campers got a chance to sample some of the edible leaves and sap from various trees! Our goal is to help foster a deeper appreciation for the forest and create lifelong nature ambassadors. When we weren’t learning about the forest we were cooling off in the river and playing games like Jump the Creek, where campers can see how far they can jump.
This camp week was filled with adventures all over the Eno River. We visited classic swim spots like Jumping Rock and Sennet’s Hole. We went for a float down the river all the way to the dam. Campers had the chance to catch and identify different macroinvertebrates such as Hellgrammites and Damselfly Larva. We learned about the importance of these critters and the role they play in determining the health of the river.
