Many birds call West Point on the Eno it’s home. During this bird-focused week, campers practiced bird calls and tried their hand at the Barred Owl call. Everyone went on a hike to see what birds they could spot and identify. Campers flew away from camp with newfound bird knowledge!
We played old-timey games like Corn Husk Darts and Hoop Rolling, cooked handmade biscuits over an open fire, churned butter, and tried out some pioneer crafts. We even threw tomahawks and spears! This camp provided an unforgettable look into the past.

This week was a combination of nature art and fort building. We discussed the history of nature art and showed the campers some pieces for inspiration. After making some art pieces of their own, the campers worked together to build their forts. The staff demonstrated lashing techniques and provided helpful fort-building tips. The whole camp gathered materials from around the park such as dead vines, pretty rocks, and shells for decorations. The end result was some functional and awesome-looking forts!
