Sourwood week gave campers a chance to appreciate the trees and plants around us through some of our senses including touch, smell, and taste! Plant walks filled our days between fun games, and cooling off in the river. Even if we don’t remember all the names of the plants in the forest, we will remember the friends we made amongst the Sourwood trees.

This week was spent using the forest as inspiration for our creations. We made a fire and forts of all forms. We also played field and forest games with running, jumping, and of course, face paint. Cooling off in the river was a great way to spend the afternoons, especially when we get to jump in off of Jumping Rock!

Campers experienced the great outdoors to the fullest through a week dedicated to building our backpacking skills. Every ounce counts when you are carrying supplies on your back, and campers learned what to pack and what to leave behind. We practiced essential skills like knot tying, packing a backpack, and strategies to keep food out of reach from animals. Then campers experienced a single night overnight backpacking trip along the Mountain to Sea Trail and following the Eno River!

Campers experienced the magic and wonder of nature through creativity and play! This fun-filled week for our youngest campers was a wonderful introduction to experiencing the outdoors. This week campers made their own bunny headbands, practiced following rabbit tracks, and heard some folktales about rabbits! Along with these themed activities, campers had a chance to build forts, splash in the creek, relax during storytelling, explore the forests and fields, try their hand at whittling, and of course, play some amazing Schoolhouse games!

Campers unleashed their imagination with a week of original, brand new, never-been-seen-before games created by our campers! Using some of our Schoolhouse classic games like Werewolf and Six Feathers as inspiration, campers used their creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork to invent some brand new games. Communication, ingenuity, and a great sense of humor were used to create, play, and improve camper-invented games. Campers also had a chance to use and make game supplies and props.

We took our projectile skills to the next level and zeroed in on getting that perfect shot! We learned how to use the whole spectrum of Schoolhouse projectiles including the atlatl and bows and arrows with a focus on hitting the mark. We practiced honing in our aim and as we worked to connect body and mind. This camp was a bullseye!
