Our Crawdad campers lived up to their name and found plenty of crawdads this week! That wasn’t the only highlight of creek time, which was a favorite for many campers. Splash fights, mud creations, and critter hunting were a few ways we cooled off at the creek. Games were another great part of the week as campers got to run, sneak, and hide through the forest – finding the best hiding spots, rescuing others from jail, and turning each other into werewolves! We were also lucky enough to be in camp when the Autumn Olives were ripe enough to be eaten and snakes were out and about! Our photos gallery will give you a little peek into our splashy, muddy, fun-filled week!
Our photos from this week might look a little unusual, but they’re just showing off some of our homesteading activities! We had a jam-packed week full of candle making, sewing projects (including some fantastic bonnets), butter churning, and learning first aid! Don’t be thrown off by our many photos of campers in slings and gauze – it was just practice! When we weren’t finding edible plants, practicing fire building, or building forts we had some time for some exciting games (Windigo! Werewolf!) and some great creek explorations. Take a look at one of the funniest photo galleries that has ever come out of Brumley Forest!

Our Orienteering week was a blast as campers practiced using a compass and reading maps, culminating in camper teams completing our very first Brumley (mini)-orienteering course! We weren’t sure how it was going to go, but every team was able to find all of the checkpoints – even more impressive when you realize a checkpoint is a simply marked tree somewhere in the forest! When we weren’t practicing our navigation skills we were busy playing some classic games like Windigo and Werewolf, climbing vines, and whittling. Creek time was another highlight as campers splashed, got muddy, and looked for critters (including a baby Northern Water Snake). Take a look at our photos to get a glimpse into our awesome week!
