During this week, we immersed ourselves in the exciting and ancient art of storytelling by sharing old tales and spinning new ones. We also explored storytelling through games like Windigo. This group also enjoyed building and created some excellent forts together. Of course, no week at Schoolhouse would be complete without some time splashing in the creek (including a trip to “Spa City”) and looking for critters. Check out the photos below to see some of the fun!
Whether creating mandalas with natural materials, building faces out of mud, or dying fabric with natural dyes, our Land Art campers spent their time exercising their creative muscles this week. Inspired by the natural world around us, we created all kinds of art and even set up an art exhibit on Friday. We also spent plenty of time playing some classic Schoolhouse games like Attack-and-Defend and Werewolf and cooling off in the creek each day. Whittling, songs, and stories filled up any leftover time we had. Check out some of the photos we took along the way!
Our Crawdad campers lived up to their name and found plenty of crawdads this week! That wasn’t the only highlight of creek time, which was a favorite for many campers. Splash fights, mud creations, and critter hunting were a few ways we cooled off at the creek. Games were another great part of the week as campers got to run, sneak, and hide through the forest – finding the best hiding spots, rescuing others from jail, and turning each other into werewolves! We were also lucky enough to be in camp when the Autumn Olives were ripe enough to be eaten and snakes were out and about! Our photos gallery will give you a little peek into our splashy, muddy, fun-filled week!
Our photos from this week might look a little unusual, but they’re just showing off some of our homesteading activities! We had a jam-packed week full of candle making, sewing projects (including some fantastic bonnets), butter churning, and learning first aid! Don’t be thrown off by our many photos of campers in slings and gauze – it was just practice! When we weren’t finding edible plants, practicing fire building, or building forts we had some time for some exciting games (Windigo! Werewolf!) and some great creek explorations. Take a look at one of the funniest photo galleries that has ever come out of Brumley Forest!
