Our Cicada campers hiked, played, and splashed their way through this exciting week of camp. Games were a big hit this week and we played Eagle Eye, Werewolf, and Kick the Can. But the favorite game of the week had to be Doxeneye–it’s tough to keep a straight face when a whole group of campers is trying to make you laugh! Of course, no week at Schoolhouse would be complete without some fort-building and plenty of water time. It was a delightful week of camp together. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun!
Our Deer campers had a blast during this week of camp! We played all sorts of forest games- from running games like Werewolf, to statue games like Wax Museum, and a Schoolhouse Classic of Sock Wars. We also spent plenty of time splashing in the river and exploring the creeks. Check out the photos to see all the fun we had together!
Campers this week went exploring throughout the park, and with every new place or activity a new legend or story was told! We heard stories for games like Dragon’s Egg, Windigo, and Spearfinger. We also heard the legend of Sennett’s Hole when we hiked out to that water time spot! Take a look at some of our favorite moments from this adventure filled week!
This geology-themed camp week led us to new areas and new activities! We tried to knap arrowheads, carve soapstone, and light quartz and steel striker fires while learning about different rocks and their properties. Campers got to see plenty of critters this week including a couple of box turtles, a northern water snake, and some Stony Creek crayfish. Six Feathers and Windigo were many campers’ favorite games of the week and had us sprinting across the field in face paint and searching for the Windigo’s heart all over Two Trees. Creek time gave us a chance to cool off, splash around, and get muddy. Check out our photo gallery to get a glimpse into our week!
Our Fern week was truly fantastic! Our campers romped and rambled around the forest and got to see plenty of awesome nature including some incredible insects, frogs, crayfish, a luna moth, a queen snake, and a tiny baby snapping turtle! Games were a highlight of the week as well with aliens, beekeepers, and yodas hiding, sneaking, and throwing socks. Fern campers also had a great time climbing at Viney Village, splashing in the creek, and getting muddy. Look at our pictures to see more of our week!
This kind and curious group of campers had a ton of fun exploring Umstead State Park this week. We whittled, built forts, played hiding and running games, looked for critters, splashed in the creek, and much more! Story-telling was a highlight for many campers this week as staff told both tall tales and true stories from their own lives. Check out the photos from this week to see some of the fun!
This incredibly excited and creative group really took this week’s theme to heart. We built everything from tiny toad abodes and fairy houses to large structures we grouped into a village. Our structures were sturdy and functional (one even sporting a working door!) as well as creative and whimsical. We also took some time to play some classic Schoolhouse games like Six Feathers and Windigo and cooled off each day in the creek. We looked for critters and were not disappointed. We even found a large black rat snake! Take a look at the photos below to see the fun!
