If you know how to play Rock Toss, enjoyed catching frogs in the rain, whittled with a potato peeler, and explored the trails and waterways of Umstead State Park, you might have been a camper in Butterfly this week! We enjoyed our week together and didn’t waste a moment of it. We caught crayfish and salamanders with nets during creek time and used teamwork to build forts at our base camp. Take a look at the photos to below to see some of the fun!
Our Pioneer Life campers spent their week learning new skills and practicing old ones. Whether learning the finer points of debris shelters, compass basics, or Dutch oven cooking, we had a great time learning about the Pioneer days. We threw tomahawks and learned to play old-timey games like marbles. We also made time for some classic Schoolhouse games like Windigo and Six Feathers. Some of us even carved out some time to hone our skills and earn Growth Rings. Take a look at our pictures below to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy!
Rhythm & Roots was an awesome week filled with all sorts of projects, explorations, and games. Our campers had a blast designing and creating all sorts of instruments using things we found in Brumley Forest and topped off the week by performing an awesome original song at our Friday closing circles. Although the musical theme was fun, it wasn’t all we got to do! Campers this week were especially excited about games and got to practice strategy, speed, and sneaking in games like Six Feathers, Scout Mission, and Werewolf. Whittling was another big part of the week and campers whittled pieces to instruments, hiking sticks, and many other creations. A week at Brumley wouldn’t be complete without some creek time and our campers this week enjoyed getting wet, catching crayfish, making mud and clay creations, and skipping rocks. It was a great week and we’d love to share some of our pictures with you!
Our Minnow campers had a busy, fun-filled week! Games were a highlight and campers enjoyed running, sneaking, hiding, and laughing through the forest and fields. We got to play classic Schoolhouse games like Beckon, Six Feathers, Knee-Coup, Kick the Can, and Dragon’s Egg. Creek time was another highlight and campers had a great time splashing, getting muddy, sculpting clay creations, and catching crayfish. Crayfish or craw-daddies weren’t the only critters we got to see. A box turtle, green heron, and a great blue heron were a few of our most exciting critters. Storytelling and whittling filled any extra time we had. It was a fun week and we’d love to share some pictures with you!
Whether catching crayfish and making mud face paint at water time, building forts and playing games in the forest, or learning the basics of whittling with potato peelers, our Frog campers had an exciting and adventurous week at Umstead State Park. We filled our days with hikes, rambles, and games. We made new friends, learned new songs, and heard new stories. It was a great week! Take a look at the photos below to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy.
Whittling and earth art really took center stage at this week’s Sunfish camp. We spent our time together trekking through the trails and splashing through the waterways, all while looking for critters like crayfish, turtles, and snakes. We built forts and fairy homes and played games like Beckon and Werewolf. Check out the photos below to see some of our adventures!
Whether wading in the river or tiptoeing through the forest, finding tracks and animals is no small feat. Our campers searched high and low, turning over rocks and listening for animal calls, and their hard work paid off! We found microinvertebrates in the creeks, scat, and tracks on the forest floor, and turtles and snakes in the Eno River. Along the way, we managed to play a few games too, including Windigo, Six Sticks, and Sock Wars. On the very last day of camp, we enjoyed s’mores around the fire and sang songs to commemorate a wonderful summer. Here are a few photos that capture just some of the magic we experienced this week.
