Our Toad campers hipped and hopped their way through an exciting and critter-filled week. They started the week by building toad homes at their base camp and were delighted on Tuesday morning to find that some toads had indeed moved in! Water time also proved to be an excellent time to find critters. Throughout the week they also saw salamanders, crayfish, water striders, snakes, and tadpoles. They also enjoyed some classic Schoolhouse games like Beckon and Dragon’s Egg and listened to new stories each day during their hikes. It was a “toad-ally” awesome week!
Our Wilderness Survival campers had an exciting week learning about the basics of surviving and thriving out in the wild. They worked on their primitive fire-making skills using quartz and steel strikers to make sparks and learned to identify different kinds of edible plants. They built a basic forest shelter called a lean-to and practiced their whittling. They learned to read maps and picked up some navigation skills. They even had the opportunity to practice their wilderness first aid skills on some willing counselors-complete with fake blood! They capped off the week with some Schoolhouse classics like Six Feathers and (survival themed) Scout Mission and, of course, enjoyed cooling off in the creek during water time each day. It was a fun and unique week!

Our Snail campers had a fun and silly week! They played classic Schoolhouse games like Kick the Can and Eagle Eye, went on a snail safari and worked on constructing a wild hut. Of course we found critters like snakes and crayfish and even an eastern box turtle! We rounded out the week with some whittling and plenty of time splashing around in the creek.
Our little architects in Grasshopper camp had a blast building and creating structures and nature art. They built forts, a tunnel, and toad/fairy houses. They found critters like turtles, toads, and bugs of all kinds. They also played some classic Schoolhouse games like Beckon and Dragon’s Egg. Of course, no summer camp week would be complete without daily water time where our Grasshoppers explored different streams and creek spots. It was a great week!
Creatures of all kinds took center stage for our Animal Instincts campers. Between their hikes and daily water time, they saw critters like turtles, crayfish, toads, snakes, lizards, snails, birds, and bugs. They also got the opportunity to touch and explore some neat animal skulls! They learned to read clues like teeth and eye placement to help them guess what kind of animal a particular skull comes from. They also managed to squeeze in some classic Schoolhouse activities like whittling, and playing games like Windigo and Werewolf. It was an excellent week!
