Our Wilderness Survival campers had an exciting week learning about the basics of surviving and thriving out in the wild. They worked on their primitive fire-making skills using quartz and steel strikers to make sparks and learned to identify different kinds of edible plants. They built a basic forest shelter called a lean-to and practiced their whittling. They learned to read maps and picked up some navigation skills. They even had the opportunity to practice their wilderness first aid skills on some willing counselors-complete with fake blood! They capped off the week with some Schoolhouse classics like Six Feathers and (survival themed) Scout Mission and, of course, enjoyed cooling off in the creek during water time each day. It was a fun and unique week!
