Summer Positions

Lead Camp Counselor
Summer season

A Summer Lead Camp Counselor is an important member of our team that leads a camp group – up to 24 campers along with a few counselors. Lead Counselors manage the group’s timing, activities, behavior, and obviously fun! They also hide in the woods, splash in the creek, and sing the songs. This position does require previous experience working with kids, preferably in a similar program.

Camp Counselor
Summer Season

Want to spend your summer outside catching crayfish, teaching whittling, and working with kids? It’s not always easy, but it’s an incredible way to spend a summer. A Summer Camp Counselor helps create magical and impactful day camps for children ages 5-12 or teens 13-17. Experience working with kids or in camps is not required, but an interest in both of them is!

Junior Counselor
Summer season

Our Junior Counselor positions are for 16 and 17 year olds looking to improve their leadership skills while working in a camp group with 5-12 year old campers and adult staff. A Summer Junior Counselor helps create magical and impactful day camps while they play the games, model empathy and respect, fill the water bottles, and guide the campers. Experience working with kids or in camps is not required, but an interest in both of them is!

Year-Round Positions

Outdoor Day Camp Manager
Year-Round

An Outdoor Day Camp Manager is passionate about joining our mission – to shape kind, curious, & confident kids through nature-based outdoor adventures. They take great pride in masterminding and managing impactful day camp experiences including programming, staffing and training, budget management, mentorship, and external communication.

A Camp Manager is skilled at mentoring both new and experienced staff, fostering a culture of empathy and continuous growth, and nurturing good humans, no matter their age.

This position requires at least two years of managing a similar nature-based youth program including managing staff, training, budgets, direct programming, and communications.

Volunteer & Internships

If you’ve got a couple hours:

Donate time and skills: Schoolhouse has a long list of needed tasks that range from low-skill to highly specialized and include just about everything in between. Give us a call to determine the best use of your unique (or not-so-unique) set of skills.
Volunteer at a Schoolhouse event: Several times each year, Schoolhouse participates in community events to help spread the word about our mission and programs.
Volunteering to represent Schoolhouse at an informational table during a community event: A brief training is required to ensure that our volunteers have all of the information they need.
Take photographs: Outdoor Camps and Field Trips lend themselves extremely well to being photographed. Our staff are fully engaged in activities with children, and we often miss great photo opportunities. We’re not looking for the next Ansel Adams; we just need fun shots of kids being kids.
If you’ve got 3–4 hours or more each month:

Serve on the Schoolhouse of Wonder Board of Directors: As a 501 ©(3) nonprofit corporation, Schoolhouse of Wonder is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The board performs essential governance tasks; ensures that Schoolhouse operates in accordance with its mission and within legal, financial, and ethical standards; and serves as ambassadors to the community. We continue to grow our board committees are currently seeking members with skills and experience in nonprofit data and outcomes, fundraising/development, and business development. Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings and working committee meetings. Although a financial contribution is expected, more important is a willingness to take an active role in developing the organization through the donation of time, skills, and energy.

At Schoolhouse of Wonder, we love volunteers. In fact, we couldn’t survive with them. Do you want to help dirty, tired, happy kids become kind, curious, confident young people? We very well may have a way for you to do just that. Here’s a list depending on how much time you have to offer.

Are you looking for an internship that is definitely not the norm? Ready to get out of the classroom and into our outdoor version of one? Want to get college credit while spending time in the woods?

We offer internships for high school and college-aged students that will challenge you to grow both personally and professionally. Whether you are studying biology, early childhood education, or X, Y or Z — we can provide you with a real-life learning lab.
