Come work for Schoolhouse!

You have to be a little unusual/ ridiculous/ passionate to work at Schoolhouse. The hours are long, the weather keeps you on your toes, but the privilege of introducing kids to nature, helping them discover how capable they are, and watching them grow in confidence every day is absolutely worth it. And the hugs don’t hurt either.

  • Year-Round Positions

    Year-round lead counselor

    A Year-Round Lead Counselor is an important member of our field team, helping lead safe, engaging, nature-based programs for children and teens. They take pride in creating memorable outdoor experiences through games, hikes, creek exploration, storytelling, songs, crafts, and other hands-on adventures.

    Lead Counselors also mentor and support other field staff, manage groups and schedules, communicate with families and coworkers, and help create a culture of kindness, curiosity, confidence, and physical and emotional safety.

    This position requires previous experience working with children or teens and experience leading groups. Strong communication, mentoring, and behavior-management skills are important, along with enthusiasm for working outdoors in all kinds of weather.

  • Summer Positions

    Lead Camp CounseloR

    A Summer Lead Camp Counselor is an important member of our team that leads a camp group – up to 24 campers along with a few counselors. Lead Counselors manage the group’s timing, activities, behavior, and obviously fun! They also hide in the woods, splash in the creek, and sing the songs. This position does require previous experience working with kids, preferably in a similar program.

    Camp CounseloR

    Want to spend your summer outside catching crayfish, teaching whittling, and working with kids? It’s not always easy, but it’s an incredible way to spend a summer. A Summer Camp Counselor helps create magical and impactful day camps for children ages 5-12 or teens 13-17. Experience working with kids or in camps is not required, but an interest in both of them is!

  • Year-Round Positions

    Outdoor Day Camp Manager

    An Outdoor Day Camp Manager is passionate about joining our mission – to shape kind, curious, & confident kids through nature-based outdoor adventures. They take great pride in masterminding and managing impactful day camp experiences including programming, staffing and training, budget management, mentorship, and external communication.

    A Camp Manager is skilled at mentoring both new and experienced staff, fostering a culture of empathy and continuous growth, and nurturing kind, curious, and confident campers, CITs, and staff.

    This position requires at least two years of managing a similar nature-based youth program including managing staff, training, budgets, direct programming, and communications.

Volunteer & Internships

At Schoolhouse of Wonder, we love volunteers. In fact, we couldn’t survive with them. Do you want to help dirty, tired, happy kids become kind, curious, confident young people? We very well may have a way for you to do just that. Here’s a list depending on how much time you have to offer.

Are you looking for an internship that is definitely not the norm? Ready to get out of the classroom and into our outdoor version of one? Want to get college credit while spending time in the woods?

We offer internships for high school and college-aged students that will challenge you to grow both personally and professionally. Whether you are studying biology, early childhood education, or X, Y or Z — we can provide you with a real-life learning lab.
