Our first Brumley Monster camp was a blast! Plenty of hard work and creativity went into monster masks and costumes, culminating in our Friday Monster Parade. Monster-themed games were another hit with Scout Mission, Dragon’s Egg, Kick the Can, and Sock Wars encouraging sneaking, running, and hiding through the fall forest. The rest of our time was filled with fort building, exploring the fall forest, and getting wet and muddy in Stony Creek! Our week wouldn’t have been complete without some whittling, hanging out (literally!) at viney village, and finding critters like a rough green snake, crayfish, salamanders, and plenty of frogs and toads. Check out some of our pics to get an idea of just how much fun we had!
Our lumberjacks sawed and chopped their way through a very fun week at Brumley Forest. They got to practice lumberjack skills like sawing with a crosscut saw, using a hatchet to chop and split wood, building a lumberjack camp (Timber!), making pine needle tea and flipping flapjacks! Our rambles through the forest and creek turned up a box turtle, queen snake, northern water snake, salamanders, and amazing caterpillars and moths! The rest of our days were filled with classic Schoolhouse games, hanging out at the viney village, listening to Paul Bunyan stories, whittling, making dorodango (Japanese mud balls), and cooling off in the creek. Check out some pics of our fantastic week!

Whittling, lashing, and fort-building–oh my! Our Whittling and Woodcraft campers had an exciting week focusing on woodworking of all kinds. They worked hard on individualized whittling projects and learned how to lash together furniture for their forest forts and huts. They even learned to use simple tools like a hand drill. They took a little break from all that building to create a patchwork style zen garden installation and also managed to squeeze in a game of Werewolf. Of course, we spotted a bunch of critters like snakes, turtles, toads, and crayfish. Another awesome Schoolhouse camp week for the books!
