Our Whittling and Woodcraft week started with a bang – of hammers! Our campers practiced safe tool usage as they built their very own bat boxes. We didn’t stop there! We practiced our whittling skills and many campers left with growth rings showing their knowledge of the whittling rules, ability to make a flat-sided object, or butter knife making abilities. When we weren’t building we ran through the forest as werewolves, built some awesome forts, saw and caught some snakes, and cooled off splashing in the creek. We had a lot of fun in two short days!
We had a great mini -week in Gosling camp! We snuck, hid, and ran through the forest trying to find hidden objects, free campers from black holes, and steal a dragon’s egg. Viney Village was a hit as campers got a chance to practice balance and concentration while climbing and swinging around. Any extra time was filed with exploring the creek, looking for animals, whittling, and building some awesome forts! We packed a lot of fun into two days – check out a few of our photos!
Our campers this week showed they really are some wild creators! Whether they were trying out new paper airplane designs, drawing maps, building dams, or making friendship bracelets, the creativity of this group was easy to see. No Schoolhouse week would be complete without some games like Kick the Can, Scout Mission, and Windigo. Fort building, whittling, and creek time rounded out a fantastic mini-week of camp. Check out our photos to get a glimpse of some of our adventures!
From games like Sock Wars to story-telling to classic pastimes like tree-climbing and whittling, this week of camp had everything we’ve come to expect from a Schoolhouse of Wonder camp. But the biggest excitement of all was an epic hike that led to an (unplanned!) discovery of Camp Craggy. Camp Craggy was a Boy Scout camp that was open from 1927 to 1930. We don’t typically explore this area of Umstead State Park and everyone was excited at the discovery. Take a look at the photos below to catch a small glimpse of our big week!
We made the most of our gorgeous weather this week by exploring the forest, building forts, and looking for critters like millipedes, worms, and slugs. Campers defeated an evil scientist, competed in Sock Wars, and swung in Viney Village. Splashing in the creek, whittling, and telling stories filled any extra time we had. Although it was a short week, we had tons of adventures- take a look at our photos to see a little peek into our week!
