Anyone can make a s’more, but it takes a true wilderness culinary talent to fry doughnuts over a campfire, or to create a delicious banana boat over the open flame. Our Campfire Cooking: Desserts campers had just that talent! We had a blast creating and sharing delicious treats. We even wrote up all our recipes in hand-make cook books. When we weren’t practicing our pastry skills, we filled our time with classic Schoolhouse games like Sock Wars and spent plenty of time enjoying the warm spring days as we looked for snakes, frogs, and more. Check out some of the photos below to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, happy…and a little sticky!

Nothing goes with warming spring days like forts, games, and creek exploration. Our Creek Critters campers experienced all that and more during our exciting week together. Whether visiting different base camps, learning to whittle, or hiking the trails, we made the most of our time together at Umstead State Park. As our camp theme implies, we searched for and found a bunch of critters, everything from snails to snakes! Take a look at our photos to catch a small glimpse of our big week!

From legends to ghost stories to tales of piracy, we spent our week enjoying all kinds of local folklore. We not only listened to stories, but we wrote and told our own. We played games inspired by what we heard (Pirate Beckon, anyone?) and enjoyed this extra focus on a Schoolhouse staple–storytelling! Of course, we spotted dozens of animals like crayfish, turtles, and frogs. The warm weather even allowed us to splash and explore a bit in the creeks. Check out these photos to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy!
