Carolina Folklore Photo Gallery
From legends to ghost stories to tales of piracy, we spent our week enjoying all kinds of local folklore. We not only listened to stories, but we wrote and told our own. We played games inspired by what we heard (Pirate Beckon, anyone?) and enjoyed this extra focus on a Schoolhouse staple–storytelling! Of course, we spotted dozens of animals like crayfish, turtles, and frogs. The warm weather even allowed us to splash and explore a bit in the creeks. Aveda Earth Jam Fashion Benefit 2019
This exciting charity show benefitting Schoolhouse of Wonder’s work with local kids celebrates the amazing talent of the Aveda Institute Chapel Hill students and adheres to Aveda’s mission to care for the world we live in, from the products we make, to the ways in which we give back to society.
New York City Guest Artist Hauns Korpela will bring his amazing choreography and design talent to Durham for the 2019 Earth Jam Charity Fashion Benefit. It’s a don’t miss event – the most avant-garde hairstyling and fashion runway show of the year! With professional staging, music, lighting, special effects and plenty of surprises, the 2019 Earth Jam Charity Fashion Benefit will be the talk of the town!

2019 New Parent Orientations
Are you and your camper new to the Schoolhouse family? If so, you probably have lot of questions about what to expect from your first week of camp! We invite you to join us at one of our 2019 camp parent orientations.
While these orientations are by no means mandatory, they are a great opportunity to meet some of our fabulous camp stuff and get all of the details you need to help your camper have a successful first week. Children are welcome, and we will have staff available with small activities and stories for them.
Please RSVP by the indicated dates by emailing schoolhouse@schoolhouseofwonder.org. When RSVPing, please indicate the number of adults and children who will be attending, along with their names. Be sure to RSVP early, as spots are limited!

Chart Your Own Course: Survival Edition Photo Gallery
This week was all about survival skills. We “foraged” for edible and medicinal plants, learned about animal tracks, tried our hand at natural water-filtration systems and whittled tools. Of course, no week at Schoolhouse of Wonder would be complete without games like Scout Mission and Windigo. We climbed trees, made some arts and crafts, and built forts. We even got to see and touch some slithery snakes and slimy snails. It was an excellent way to spend a springtime week. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun!

Woodland Games: Strategy and Luck Photo Gallery
Our Woodland Games camp was full of strategy, luck, and countless highs and lows–the highs of winning, the lows of defeat, the highs of warm afternoons, and the lows of one of the coldest days of the year. We took advantage of the weather while it was nice and had a great time playing games like Sock Wars, Beckon, Scout Mission, Monarch, Knee Coup, and plenty more. Several afternoons were warm enough to explore Stony Creek where we found crayfish, salamanders, minnows, and plenty of mud! Whittling, vine-swinging, and tree-climbing were a few other highlights of the week (not to mention all of the close-up helicopters we got to see!). The spring weather brought out some great nature including tadpoles, butterflies, a nesting pair of Canada geese, fiddleheads, and a worm snake. Whether it was warm enough to wade in the creek or cold enough to wear winter coats and drink cocoa, we had a great time exploring Brumley Forest!
Into the Wild Eno Photo Gallery
Into the Wild Eno camp had campers exploring creeks, the river, and the forest for this 2-Day and 5-Day camp. Rainy days didn’t stop the fun, and allowed us to spend time making homemade compasses and experiencing a Schoolhouse Escape Room! The sunny days were spent finding critters in the creek, in the forest, and playing Meet a Tree. All of this exploring was of course accompanied by Schoolhouse classics including Sock Wars and Windigo. Take a look at the pictures below to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy!
