Our Salamander campers had a fantastic week filled with salamander activities, stories, games, and crafts! Campers had a great time playing Kick the Can and an exciting round of Scout Mission where they had to look for the magical objects (a salamander egg, slime, and a growing chamber). Campers tried their hand at making salt dough salamanders – which turned out great…until the rain turned them back into dough! Another highlight of the week was seeing (and getting to touch!) a few snakes, including our biggest of the summer, a 6-foot black rat snake! Climbing at Viney Village, whittling, and cooling off at the creek rounded out our amazing salamander week. Take a look to see some photos from Salamander Camp!
Our fort builders were busy this week imagining, planning, and building all sorts of creations in Brumley Forest! We started with some basic skills like lashing, knot tying, and saw use and from there the campers took charge! They created multi-floor forts, swings, ladders, and many other awesome inventions. Creek time was a hit with some great rock-stacking competitions, crayfish catching, and cooling off and getting wet. Games were another hit, and many campers really enjoyed having an energetic and enthusiastic battle to defeat the Windigo and then try to defeat him again. Creativity and imagination were the words of this week, which truly lived up to it’s name – ultimate fort builders! Check out our photos to see our awesome creations and fun-filled week!

Our campers in Cardinal camp had a great time this week as we explored and rambled through the forest. We grabbed tails in Six Feathers, threw socks and cast spells in Sock Wars, and tried to find the best hiding spots in Beckon. Creek time was a favorite for many campers who spent time looking for crayfish, playing with mud, and splashing around. We also found some salamanders and a box turtle! When we weren’t playing games, we spent some time practicing our whittling skills and climbing around Viney Village. Take a look at our photo gallery to get an idea of what our week was like!
Our campers this week were very focused and motivated to learn about the four areas of Growth Rings: plant identification, whittling, fire building, and snake identification and handling. We practiced quartz and steel strikers and bow drill fires. We tried our hand at whittling flat-sided objects, butter knives, and spoons. We learned about plants and a few folks made plant presses. And we had a camper earn his “Snake Level 4” by catching a big black rat snake! When we weren’t working on rings, we were busy playing games like Windigo and Six Feathers and cooling off in the creek. This was a fun and goofy week with campers working hard to earn growth rings. Check out our photo gallery to see what it was like!
