If your camper came home with a flat-sided object, a butter knife, or a spoon, they might have been a camper in Whittling Basics camp. We spent this week honing our skills in this classic Schoolhouse of Wonder pass-time. We focused on safety and skill-building and came away with some excellent whittled projects! When not whittling away, we spent our time looking for critters in the forest and creek, building forts, playing games like Kick the Can, and telling stories. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun!

This week was all about survival skills. We “foraged” for edible and medicinal plants, learned about animal tracks, tried our hand at natural water-filtration systems and whittled tools. Of course, no week at Schoolhouse of Wonder would be complete without games like Scout Mission and Windigo. We climbed trees, made some arts and crafts, and built forts. We even got to see and touch some slithery snakes and slimy snails. It was an excellent way to spend a springtime week. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun!

Nothing goes with warming spring days like forts, games, and creek exploration. Our Creek Critters campers experienced all that and more during our exciting week together. Whether visiting different base camps, learning to whittle, or hiking the trails, we made the most of our time together at Umstead State Park. As our camp theme implies, we searched for and found a bunch of critters, everything from snails to snakes! Take a look at our photos to catch a small glimpse of our big week!
