Our campers this week embarked on an exciting, old-timey adventure. We spent our time learning about things the pioneer might have done, including animal tracking, fire-building, butter-making, cooking in a dutch oven, and more! Of course, no week at Schoolhouse would be complete without a few critters (snakes! snails! slugs! oh my!), plenty of games, and some muddy creek time. Check out the photos below to see some of the fun.
In this week of mapping and tracking, campers explored the tallest peaks of the forest and lowest beds of the creek using their newly developed navigation skills. We discovered how to use compasses and maps and looked into how scat and animal tracks can play a role in understanding our directional abilities in nature. The amphitheater map we created took us on woodsy adventures and allowed us to see so much amazing wildlife. Take a look at the photos below to see the fun!
Our Moth campers had a delightful week exploring the creeks and trails of Umstead State Park. We spent our time playing forest and field games, practicing whittling with potato peelers, hearing stories, and building some epic forts. We even saw some cool critters! Check out the photos to see some of the fun.

Our Bumblebee campers had a blast this week exploring all that Umstead State Park has to offer. We played field and forest games, sang songs, heard stories, whittled, and made new friends. Creek time was a favorite part of the day for many campers and the water provided much-needed relief during the hot summer days. Of course, no week at Schoolhouse would be complete without plenty of critters, and this week did not disappoint. We found crayfish, turtles, bugs and more!
