This week at Three Bears, our 5-6 year old campers adventured all over the forest! We found all sorts of bugs, and other critters. We built a fort and played game after game. Our week was filled with adventure and discovery.

We put the FUN in Fungi this week! Campers showcased their creativity by making mini mushrooms and tiny bug houses. They played their hearts out in lots of silly games and splashed to their hearts content in the creek to beat the heat!

We set out to grow this week – and we did in all kinds of ways! Not only did we learn new skills in whittling, fire building, plant identification, and snake handling, but we also made new friends, competed in silly splash fights, and explored the world around us in new ways.

This week the campers did a lot of exploring in a Kingfisher’s favorite place to be: near the water! They had a chance to visit multiple unique creek spots, learned to skip rocks, found countless crawfish, and played many fun games whenever they needed a break from the water. Fun times were had all around!

During this program campers had many opportunities to get dirty and explore. They found natural deposits of clay and used it to make sculptures, dug in the dirt for bugs and signs of larger creatures, and trampled down the ground while running around playing camp games such as Werewolf.

Campers learned fun facts about the history of Umstead State Park this week while also learning how plants and animals utilized this land before it even became a park! The group made sure to do some ‘hands-on learning’ by exploring what the park has to offer: everything from new base camps to the best creek spots.

This week, we turned Schoolhouse into a Schoolhome by learning some classic homesteading activities! We had a blast making candles, baking cakes, sewing pouches, and making eco prints.

Our campers were able to set sail on the creek on rafts they built! We learned knots by making miniature stick boats, worked together to lash bamboo rafts, and even had time to fish the creek. This week was surely one to remember!
