Umstead’s forest was not the only thing campers guarded this week! Whether it was protecting themselves from the Lich as they searched for her heart or preventing their feathers being stolen during Six Feathers, everyone took their job as guardian very seriously this week!

Salamanders and Turtles and Toads, oh my! This week, we learned all about our favorite creeping and crawling friends: reptiles and amphibians! We played games that had us slithering like snakes, swimming like salamanders, and camouflaging like turtles. We also sampled the pond’s water and critters, explored the forest, cleaned up the creek, and even dissected a bullfrog!

Our littles tuned into their spidey senses this week as they played games like Swing Spider Swing, made pinecone spiders, and learned about spider’s role in the ecosystem! We went on critter hunts, played lots of games with face paint, and had a blast in the creek!

In our final week of camp we explored the final fortier and built an epic town in the woods! We put our creativity to the test and built a carwash, a bank, a haunted house, and much more out materials we gathered from the forest. When we weren’t crafting fun forts, we were playing lots of running games, playing with mud in the creek, and finding treasures in the forest!

Our oldest group leveled UP this week as they built forts complete with raised platforms and ladders! They got to see their hard work pay off in their fort building adventures and had many other epic adventures as they found snakes, played intense games, and tested the limits of their imagination.

Flora, Fauna, Fun! Photo Gallery
We had so much fun this week looking at all the flora and fauna in the park as we soak in the last few weeks of warm weather (and the rainy season)! We made art out of nature, searched for frogs, toads, and worms (oh my!) and even went fishing. We made new friends, played lots of silly games in the forest, and learned to help each other, cheer one another on, and brave a rainy Friday!

Campers really put their Outdoor Survival Skills to the test this week, having to utilize them in both rain and shine! This included using knots to build boats, learning to start fires, and identifying edible plants that grow within Umstead State Park!

This week we explored old and new parts of the forest! We went to our favorite beloved base camps and trekked out to new territory where we found cute animals, epic mudslides, and a new favorite creek spot! We played, splashed, and explored our way through this week as junior naturalists.
