While we may splash in the water every day of camp, River Rangers week took water time to a whole new level! Whether fishing from our own bamboo poles, hiking along the banks of the Eno, or learning all about the creatures of the water, we explored every part of the Eno River we could find. Of course, we also spent time whittling and playing classic Schoolhouse games. Check out some photos of our week!
What a full, full week filled with fun in Catfish camp! Turtles, northern water snakes, butterflies, cicadas, and more were all found during out adventurous week. We even got to see a HUGE catfish from the river! From face paint to fort building, Sock Wars to climbing trees, this week was a total blast! Check out our photo gallery to get a peek at Catfish camp.
Our week of Sapling camp was a blast! We had great luck finding critters of Brumley Forest in the fields, creeks, and woods. A few salamanders, a northern water snake, and plenty of crayfish were just a few of the great things we got to see and catch. Games were another highlight of the week and culminated in an all-camp game of Six Feathers. Campers zigged and zagged their way across the field trying to gather all six feathers while avoiding their tails being stolen – it was a very fun game! Storytelling and songs, forts and whittling, viney village, and even some spy training filled in the rest of our week. It was a great week that really did end with all of us dirty, tired, and happy. This week we really tackled the question of what to build. Campers practiced whittling, sawing, lashing, and hand drill skills as they made all sorts of creations including clothes hangers, wooden animal sculptures, gnomes, and even an elevated platform fort. Creek time was a favorite for many campers and catching crayfish, touching a northern water snake, having some wild splash fights, and getting muddy were just a few ways campers spent their time. When we weren’t creating or cooling off, we played plenty of games including Kick the Can, Sock Wars, and Six Feathers. We were amazed to see some awesome creations being crafted, whittled, and built this week while having a great time in camp. Check out our photos to see more about how we spent this week!
Whether playing games, singing sings, listening to stories, or splashing in the creek, our Woodpecker campers had a blast at Umstead State Park this week. During village time, some of us learned the basics of whittling with potato peelers while some of us built forts or hunted for the perfect walking stick. We enjoyed looking for critters throughout the park, and water time was a favorite activity each day. Take a peak at the photos below to catch a small glimpse of our big week!
