Fireside Stories Photo Gallery
In Fireside Stories we shared tales and made flames! Our counselors told stories with many lessons and laughs, and campers worked on crafting their own. Campers challenged themselves to practice fire-building skills by building a flame big enough to burn through a string to drop down a treat. We also dipped candles and played some classic Schoolhouse games. We rounded out the week by enjoying the warm(ish) weather with some creek time adventures. This camp week was dedicated to practicing fire-making in a safe and fun environment. Campers learned how to identify and utilize natural firestarters like lighter pine and cedar bark. We explored different methods for building the starting structure for their fires. Each camper had the opportunity to try out various primitive and modern fire starting methods like a bow drill, steel striker, and ferrocerium rod. Each day brought a new opportunity for participants to develop their fire skills. We even had a chance to cook food over a campfire! Marshmallows, YUM!
