Our campers this week were very focused and motivated to learn about the four areas of Growth Rings: plant identification, whittling, fire building, and snake identification and handling. We practiced quartz and steel strikers and bow drill fires. We tried our hand at whittling flat-sided objects, butter knives, and spoons. We learned about plants and a few folks made plant presses. And we had a camper earn his “Snake Level 4” by catching a big black rat snake! When we weren’t working on rings, we were busy playing games like Windigo and Six Feathers and cooling off in the creek. This was a fun and goofy week with campers working hard to earn growth rings. Check out our photo gallery to see what it was like!
Our campers in Cardinal camp had a great time this week as we explored and rambled through the forest. We grabbed tails in Six Feathers, threw socks and cast spells in Sock Wars, and tried to find the best hiding spots in Beckon. Creek time was a favorite for many campers who spent time looking for crayfish, playing with mud, and splashing around. We also found some salamanders and a box turtle! When we weren’t playing games, we spent some time practicing our whittling skills and climbing around Viney Village. Take a look at our photo gallery to get an idea of what our week was like!
Fun in the sun! Our campers had the time of their lives soaking up the sun, catching critters and making waves in the creek. We also spent time learning how to skip rocks and build stick boats to float along the stream. Of course we played our most popular games like Beckon, Kick the Can, and Jump the Creek. The fun never stopped with this group! Check out the photos below and see for yourself!
