There’s nothing quite like wandering through the woods! This week we got to explore all around the park, visiting places very few have tread, looking far across the lake and peering close up right beneath our feet, and finding lots of cool natural treasures along the way.

It was a creative week in the forest! Campers played games that incorporated the colors of the rainbow, built forts using sticks and twine, and went on nature rambles to find cool leaves they could use in their art this week. They also spent time making nature journals, suncatchers, and many other nature based crafts!
July 27-31: Shipwrecked at the Stream Photo Gallery
This week, campers spent extra time exploring in and around the creek. Campers built toy sized boats using sticks and floated them down the creek. Campers got to pretend to be pirates during a fun game of Pirate Mash and even got to make pirate flags for their teams! When they weren’t in the water or pretending to be pirates, they spent time whittling, fort building, and listening to stories all about pirates.

This week campers grew their knowledge about the plants in Umstead’s forest. Campers spent the week going on nature rambles and making observations about the plants they found. They also spent time whittling, building forts, and playing Schoolhouse classics like Musical Trees!

Celebrate a week of discovery, creativity, and outdoor adventure! Our youngest campers explored the forests and fields of Brumley Nature Preserve while following the bright red cardinal through nature’s wonders. From listening for bird songs and searching for nests high in the trees to creating beautiful bird-inspired crafts, each day was filled with curiosity, imagination, and joyful play. This album captures the smiles, friendships, and unforgettable moments that made Cardinal Camp such a special introduction to the magic of the natural world.

From learning to build a fire and safely whittle wood to identifying local plants and wildlife, our campers embraced the challenge of mastering essential wilderness survival skills. Guided by experienced counselors, they built confidence, worked together, and earned growth rings as they demonstrated new skills and reached important milestones. This album captures their hands-on adventures, determination, and the unforgettable memories made while exploring the great outdoors.

This week, a simple patch of forest transformed into something extraordinary as campers worked together to build a few incredible fort. Stick by stick, knot by knot, they used hand drills, saws, knives, twine, and plenty of teamwork to create a shelter ready for whatever the woods might bring.

From muddy adventures and campfire laughter to new friendships and unforgettable outdoor experiences, we embraced every moment with smiles and resilience. The rain became part of the adventure, making this camp even more memorable. Here’s to a week filled with fun, teamwork, and memories that will last a lifetime!

This week was all about staying cool and making the most of the summer sunshine! We spent extra time exploring the creek, splashing in the water, searching for critters, shells, and other hidden treasures, or simply relaxing in the shade with our toes in the water. From laughter-filled splash fights to peaceful moments by the water, it was a week full of summer adventures, friendship, and unforgettable memories!
