Brumley Forest
Color Color Everywhere! Photo Gallery
This week we searched the forest far and wide for all the colors we could find! We searched for rocks of all colors, mushrooms of every color, and leaves – and we actually found some of every color (believe it or not!) We loved games like Monster Mash, Camouflage, and Rainbow Tag, and had lots of fun being silly with our faceprint! We loved swinging on vines at Piney Path, finding box turtles and giant mushrooms, and making new friends in the woods!

Backpacking 101: Bowdrills, Bandages, and Bears Photo Gallery
This week was truly an adventure! We not only learned wildlife skills like bear encounters, basic first aid, and how to best pack our backpacks, but we also got to throw tomahawks and atl atls (a traditional form of spear throwing)! We made primitive fire with a bowdrill or quartz and steel, and we roasted marshmallows and doughboys! Some of us made primitive water filters during water time out of old 2L bottles, cotton balls, and materials from the woods. We loved being extra silly during water time, and had a great week making friends!

Bobcat Photo Gallery
What a great last week of the summer together! While we didn’t find any bobcats this week, we did find other fun forest critters like box turtles, butterflies, clams, and crawdads at water time. We loved swinging on vines at Viney Village, and running down our favorite hill on the way to the Boneyard basecamp. We even found a new climbing log at the Beech basecamp, which we loved exploring during the day. Our counselors told some incredible stories this week including Were-bobcat and the never before heard story of Were-mosquito!

In this final epic week of summer, we explored Brumley Nature Preserve far and wide for new basecamps, water spots, and even old ruins! We caught some hard to find critters along the way like a rough green tree snake, and enjoyed going to the Deep Water Spot a lot! We were especially silly during creek time, with our mud walls and mud paintings, dam building, and general goofiness. We used compasses to find the secret hidden objects during Scout Mission, and had to solve a riddle of its whereabouts all while being searched by an “evil” counselor! This 7-12 year old group really bonded well together and had a terrific last week of summer!

Frogs, snakes, and bugs oh my! This week the animals were out to play and so were we! We spent our days running around collecting rainbow facepaint colors, jumping over creeks, and climbing in vines, before relaxing with some whittling and bracelet making!
