Wonder Kid Photo Gallery
Our week at camp started off a little rainy, but that didn’t stop us from exploring the park and searching for critters–an activity that was a favorite throughout the week. In addition to checking out the critters in and around our base camp, we filled our days with hiking around the park and splashing around at all of our water time locations. We explored different creeks and visited a few special spots along the Eno River. We also got the chance to create ghillie suits and cover ourselves in mud to practice our camouflage techniques. In addition to all these activities, we also played a variety of classic Schoolhouse games, such as the Windigo, Dragon’s Egg, and Bum Bum Bum. Overall it was an awesome week filled with lots of excitement.
Play With Honor Photo Gallery
This week in Play With Honor camp we discussed what it means to be a good sport and to play every game with integrity. We listened to one another’s suggestions and made every game fun for everyone! We also explored the woods and waterways; seeing emerging mushrooms, slithering and swimming snakes, and a hopping frog or two. Our summer is off to a great start. Our week was filled with exploration and adventure! We started off the week by exploring our base camps and seeing what type of critters lived there. We discovered that our base camps have some awesome materials for building, and we soon got busy constructing fairy homes and forts. We also beat the heat with plenty of water time at the river and creeks. While at water time we got to turn over rocks and see what critters were hiding under them. We used nets to try and catch some of the critters to get a closer look at them. Our days usually ended with funny songs and stories about turtles and roosters. Songs, Stories, and Animal Noises Photo Gallery
We had a fun and funny week out at Umstead State Park. We spent our 4 days together exploring the trails and creeks, looking for adventure and critters. We were not disappointed! We found snakes, toads, frogs, and crayfish galore. We also used binoculars to search the skies and treetops for birds and squirrels. We carved out some time for whittling and fort-building, and of course listened to stories of all kinds. We heard funny stories, exciting stories, and stories with lessons. Arboreal Architects Photo Gallery
Our Arboreal Architects campers were hard at work designing and building some awesome forest creations. Forts of all sizes and shapes were built, and some were helped out with our new found lashing skills. The forest was a great place for forts, and it was also a great backdrop for plenty of Schoolhouse games. Campers sprinted in Six Feathers, snuck around in Scout Mission, and played all sorts of other games from Park Ranger to Dragon’s Egg and more. It was an incredible nature week for us as we got to see some tiny baby snapping turtles, salamanders, several snakes, and crayfish both big and small. Fox Photo Gallery
Our Fox campers had a fantastic week of games, creek time, storytelling, whittling and more! Whether it was a game of sailors competing against a sea monster, villagers trying to quietly steal a blind dragon’s eggs, or running to steal the six feathers, we had a great and imaginative time. We also saw some great animals this week including a box turtle, plenty of toads, praying mantises, a black rat snake, a worm snake, and of course, plenty of crayfish! We had a great week of camp whether we were getting muddy in the creek, wet in the rain, sweaty in the fields, or relaxed in the forest. Maybe you’ve already played Poison Dart Frog or Park Ranger in your home or yard? Maybe you’ve given up a potato peeler to whittling? We hope your camper had a great week! Team Challenges Photo Gallery
With a focus on the Three Cs of successful teamwork (communication, cooperation, and compromise), we dove into a variety of challenges this week at Umstead State Park. We carried these skills over into our games, where we ran, dodged, and hid as we played games like Six Feathers. We enjoyed hiking through the woods and splashing in the creek. We searched for critters and found a variety of snakes, crayfish, toads, and more. We filled the rest of our time with listening to stories, building forts, and whittling the week away! Our Duck campers waddled their way to a wild time this week. We spent our time hiking through the woods, splashing in the creek, listening to stories, and playing games like Beckon and Dragon’s Egg. Some of us used binoculars to spot animals while some of us spent some time on arts and crafts. We used nets in the creek to explore the animals in our ecosystem. We found critters like tortoises, toads, and even a Stag Beetle! It was an exciting week full of new friends and laughter. Take a look at our photos below.
