Our Primitive Projectiles campers took a trip back through time this week and explored the history of projectiles. We began with atlatls and slings and worked our way up to archery, tomahawk throwing, and even got to use a blow dart gun! Not only did we throw, swing, and toss all kinds of projectiles, but we also constructed our very own practice course to hone our aiming skills. Our campers built Japanese stilt grass monsters to help the park prep for its annual event, Haunting at Harris! We even had time to create some amazing earth art and find cool critters like box turtles, green treefrogs, and millipedes. Check out our photos to see more about this exciting week at Harris Lake!
This wonderful week of fall camp was truly a blast from the past. We built our Old Timey Village deep in the woods and it included many imaginative structures – a bakery, a doctor’s office, a trading post, and even a hiking stick emporium! We also found time to throw some hatchets, do some crosscut sawing, and roast some good old-fashioned doughboys over the campfire (complete with cinnamon and hand churned butter). Water time at the Eno River was also a favorite this week, and we found lots of aquatic critters including water snakes, crayfish, and an old one-eyed snapping turtle! We hope you enjoy these fun pictures from Old Timey Village.
What better way to welcome the fall season than by running and jumping through the woods with friends? We did plenty of that during this year’s Woodland Gamer Camp! We played as many different games as we could squeeze in, and after each game was over we processed through it in a respectful group discussion to try and figure out how to improve ourselves for the next one. Highlights included Windigo, Six Feathers, Bum Bum Bum, Sock Wars, and Werewolf. We also enjoyed some of the last warm days of the year by splashing around the the Eno River every afternoon. We hope you enjoy these fun pictures from Woodland Gamer.
At Schoolhouse of Wonder, archery in the forest is one of our favorite things to do! This week, we finally enjoyed some real autumn weather on our woodland target range, as we shot at block targets, balloons, homemade plate targets, and a swinging bag. We also got to explore the mysteries of the forest on a rainy day, play a few games like Kneecoup and Werewolf, and tell some stories along the way. We hope you enjoy these fun pictures from Fall Archer Camp.

The hunt was indeed on for our campers this week as they worked together to solve puzzles, follow clues, and complete team-building activities. In addition to Schoolhouse classics like playing forest and field games and exploring the creeks, these campers enjoyed some unique activities, like working together to build an obstacle course. They learned the differences between lizards and salamanders, and enjoyed a unique craft time related to those critters. The week was full of challenges and adventures that culminated in an epic clue-filled scavenger hunt to find a treasure on Friday. Campers and staff alike had an excellent week!
If it flies, crawls, slithers, hops, or swims, we looked for it at Harris Lake! Our campers fully embraced the theme this week and had a great time learning, exploring, and playing in the fresh autumn air. In addition to Schoolhouse classics like whittling and forest & field games, they managed to squeeze in tons of animal-themed activities. They built bird’s nests, sculpted animals out of clay, embarked on an insect safari, invented their own animals and used face paint to bring them to life, and even got to go fishing with the park staff. Their efforts to engage with as many critters as possible was well-rewarded and they saw snakes, turtles, birds, bugs, frogs, salamanders, fish, and much more. Check out our photo gallery to see how we ended each day dirty, tired, and happy!
