Much fun was had as campers explored the wonderful woods of Umstead in search of sticks to use for all sorts of activities! They used them to practice fire building, whittle walking sticks, create fantasy friends, and look underneath them in the hopes of seeing cool bugs. By the end of the week, campers used this practice to earn countless Growth Rings as they advanced their skills.

For campers that have ever wondered about how wolves use teamwork or how bats navigate at night, this was the camp for them! We got to know all about the mammals of the forest and what makes each of them special. Using our mammal themed games, crafts, and a healthy dose of imagination, we experienced the Eno and its forest from a different perspective as we channeled our inner mammal!

This week we tried our hand at old timey talents, made all kinds of treasures, and found some beautiful treasures in the woods! We tried spear throwing, fire building, and candle making. We whittled, wove, and spent many hours searching for creek critters!

Many scales were found as we hiked the trails this week at Umstead State Park! From turtles and fish to Northern Water Snakes got the opportunity to interact with many scaly creatures. The group also enjoyed paracord bracelet making, playing kick the can, and whittling.

The forest is coming alive this spring and we got up close and personal with all the exciting spring time things! We jumped into the creek, went on lots of snake searches, built cool forts, and even slid down an epic mudslide. What a way to jump into spring!

Frogs, snakes, and bugs oh my! This week the animals were out to play and so were we! We spent our days running around collecting rainbow facepaint colors, jumping over creeks, and climbing in vines, before relaxing with some whittling and bracelet making!

We made our choices count during this week of choose-your-own-adventure. Storytelling is a big part of the Schoolhouse experience and this week the campers decided which direction the story and untamed fun went! Campers were given the opportunity to choose the games and challenges their group experienced as the weeklong story unfolded in a fun-filled week of unpredictable journeys!
