March 16-20: Carve it, weave it, play it! Photo gallery
Campers really channeled their colorful and creative sides throughout this spring week of camp! Sticks were whittled, pet rocks were painted, and rainbow tag was played. The week culminated with a bright sunny day at our creek spot, Forehead Falls!
March 16-20: Flame on! Photo Gallery
Watch those sparks fly! Campers learned to start campfires with all sorts of supplies – matches, ferrocerium rods, and even quartz & steel strikers! We cooked doughboys over a group fire and practiced tying knots, whittling, and building shelters in the forest.
March 9-13: Above & Below: Forest Adventures Photo gallery
The forest was bursting with life this week, and so were we! We sent projectiles soaring through the air, then looked below the surface by rolling logs to find the tiny creatures waking up for spring. We rambled through the woods, whooshed down mud slides, and explored the creek. It was messy, lively, and full of discoveries above and below!

This week, the group tried their best to search every inch of Umstead for interesting bugs, cool bones, and the shiniest rocks; and they succeeded! In between explorations, the group also took time to float boats, practice their fire skills, and craft a rope swing!

Cool weather is a wonderful time to explore the forest and see a different dimension to our familiar places. In this naturalist themed week, we fueled our creativity and tested our observation skills as we explored this new side of the forest.


with new leaves budding, baby birds emerging, and flowers blooming all around us, this album captures the joy of the season in full swing. Every celebration is a little sweeter with roasted marshmallows!
