Our Board of Directors

No non-profit can exist without having a board of directors, but even more-so at Schoolhouse we could not thrive without our dedicated board members who give tirelessly of their time, talent, and passion for kids.

Board Chairperson

Robin is the Chief of Staff for The Redwoods Group. She joined our board in 2021. As a parent, she most appreciates the incredible programming that Schoolhouse of Wonder provides. She calls it a “pretty magical combination of being completely unplugged but deeply connected - to other campers, to caring, creative and well-trained counselors, and to the natural world.” She has been glad for the opportunity for her family to be involved with the camp programs of Schoolhouse of Wonder and she wants every child and family who desires this kind of opportunity to have it - now and for many years to come.

Board Vice Chair

Amber is Regional Vice President of Eurofins Built Environment East, a network of environmental testing laboratories. The impact we have on our environment, and that it has on us, is ubiquitous and she is passionate about supporting an organization that educates children about these impacts through play and adventure. The magic of Schoolhouse is evident in her son's dirty, happy, tired face at the end of every camp day. She is grateful for the opportunity to support the program's exciting vision and mission and help it endure for future generations.

Board Secretary

Renee is an Environmental Educator for NCSU’s Extension Forestry, which includes her role as the state coordinator for Project Learning Tree—a program which provides activities and resources to engage children in learning about the environment through the lens of trees and forests. Renee joined our board in 2021, bringing her experience from two previous positions on non-profit boards and knowledge of environmental education across the region to Schoolhouse of Wonder. She is glad for the opportunity to work with staff and board members to lift up the mission and values of the organization.

Jen is a Research Assistant Professor with NCSU’s Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources. She’s been a member of our board since 2018. She joined our board because she believes in Schoolhouse's mission, vision, and values and enjoys working with and learning from the other board members, who are creative, imaginative, and hard-working. She loves that at Schoolhouse, differences are celebrated, and everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Kids can be themselves, run wild, get dirty, while learning to appreciate one another.

Mickey is a Commercial Solar Specialist with Southern Energy Management. He joined our board in 2021 because he wanted to further expand and grow the mission of Schoolhouse of Wonder. He appreciates how accessible the Schoolhouse programs are, and since he has children in our programs, he can personally attest to how much his children appreciate nature and are willing to explore our world more and more.

8

Amy is a nonprofit leader with over 15 years in nonprofit management and accounting. She joined the board in 2023, bringing her leadership and nonprofit experience. As a camp parent, she values the mission of Schoolhouse of Wonder to "create kind, curious, and confident kids through outdoor education and nature-based experiences." She is honored to help Schoolhouse achieve their mission, as well as spread the joy and wonder of Schoolhouse to other families.

Elizabeth-2

Elizabeth is a public health professional with the NC Healthcare Association whose analytic work focuses on health, equity and rural communities. She joined the board in 2023 to support sharing the unique experience of SHoW with families and communities across the triangle.

Elizabeth-3
Erin-2

Erin joined the board of directors at Schoolhouse because she wanted a chance to get involved in and give back to the outdoor/nature education world, which is a departure from her day-to-day work life at Accenture. She enjoys working with others to navigate challenges and celebrate the successes of an organization in which she truly believes. She loves the way Schoolhouse of Wonder gives kids (hers included!) the chance to explore nature, form relationships, and develop a sense of self, all while under the watchful eyes of counselors who they really admire. She appreciates the emphasis on empowering kids to feel confident in nature, which in turn encourages her as a parent to trust in their capabilities and give them additional opportunities for risk and growth in nature and beyond.

Emily Wallace is a Managing Principal with Thrivner, a woman-owned small business with extensive experience serving academia, industry, non-profits, and government. She has been a part of Schoolhouse’s board since 2021. Prior to joining the board, she has also been a part of Schoolhouse as a camp parent.
